County Freeholders Fight To Trademark The Phrase ‘Union County Freeholders’

January 11, 2012

A race to the Trademark Office is being run by the Union County Freeholders and the Union County Watchdog Association to secure the trademark rights to the term “Union County Freeholders”.

When the Union County Freeholders began to copyright the videos of their meetings, which are the people’s property, the UCWA came up with the idea to trademark the term ‘Union County Freeholders’ as stakeholders and, as county residents, the rightful owners of the term.

The Union County Freeholders have filed an injunction to prevent the UCWA from holding the registered trademark and have appealed to retain the right to trademark the term for the Board’s protection.

There’s been no word from Freehold or Freehold Township whether they’ll choose to involve themselves in any potential litigation.
